This is the Verification Page to tell Google that you are the webmaster for the particular website, that you have submitted to Google. This is completely optional (you have already submitted your Google Sitemap), but what this enables you to do is check for website errors etc with Google. There are only two methods of verification for Google. You only need to choose one of them. 1. You can either upload an HTML file with a name that Google specify or 2. Add a META tag to your site's index file I am selecting Method two to use for verification, I have selected this option from the pull down menu.
I have copied the code that Google have asked me to place within the meta tag of my index page. So now I have to insert this line of code inside the meta tag of my index page. I have inserted my code between the <head> and <head/> tags at the top of my index webpage, and I am now going to save this file and upload my updated index page to my website on the web. I have uploaded my index.htm file to the web with the Google verification code included. Back to Google Webmaster Tools and click on the verify button...
It says that I have Verified the website, (Remember this is completely optional - Your Sitemap is already Done) Now you have more options available on the left hand side of screen and on each of the other tabs. In general you will have more statistical analysis options. See if you learn a little bit more about your website by perusing the different statistical analysis links and tabs. OKAY NOW WE CAN HAVE A QUICK LOOK AT THE TWO OTHER FILES THAT YOU HAVE ALSO DOWNLOADED. The second file that you downloaded was a sitemap.html file, all you have to do is load that particular file up to your webspace. The third file was the urllist.txt file
which is just a simple text file with a list of your webpage URL's inside of it.
All you have to do is upload this file to your website. This file is for you to
submit to Yahoo - it is used as a yahoo Sitemap. For more details of how to
